Best Traditional Restaurants in Brussels

more than a year ago
The Belgian world of fries, waffles and chocolate is something everyone looks forward to when coming to Brussels, but there’s a lot more to discover when it comes to the citys foodie scene. Because the typical Belgian cuisine isn’t that known abroad, it can sometimes be difficult to know where to find those hearty Belgian dishes that will leave you craving for more. We’re happy to introduce you to some truly authentic restaurants, where you can experience a real Belgian dining experience when visiting the city.

Fin de Siecle

Very popular with tourists and recommended by locals, La Fin de Siècle is a place where you’ll find the most delicious and original Belgian-inspired food at reasonable prices. They are situated in the center of the city, they don’t take cards or reservations and the limited menu is displayed on a chalkboard. You will probably have to wait for a table but you’ll not be disappointed!

Comme Chez Soi

Currently holding 2 Michelin stars, Comme Chez Soi is one of the most popular fine dining restaurants in Brussels. The name of the place means “just like home” and the extraordinary culinary experience offered by Lionel Rigolet will be one to remember. The menu features classic and contemporary recipes, always perfectly executed using first quality products and the latest technologies. Either you choose to eat in the kitchen or in the Art Nouveau dining room, make sure to book your table far ahead!

Au Stekerlapatte

Traditional Belgian brasserie located in the heart of the historic Marolles neighbourhood. We highly recommend this place if you want a taste of what a typically Belgian menu has to offer. Founded in the 1970s, Au Stekerlapatte it’s knows for it’s great atmosphere, great Belgian beers and amazing dishes like shrimp croquettes, bloempanch, pig foot and salmon. They also offer a lunch option every day!

Belga Queen

A high-end restaurant housed in a former 19th-century bank building that will definitely impress you. The Oyster Bar, the Beer Bar, the Belgian food with a modern twist and the Cigar Bar situated on the basement in an old vault are the fancy elements that will make you feel special at Belga Queen. The after-hours Dance Club is also a real hit!

Le Chou de Bruxelles

With 30 different ways to prepare mussels, Le Chou de Bruxelles is the place where you’ll find one of the best mussels of Brussels. This cosy restaurant decorated with Belgian memorabilia offers typical Belgian dishes and authentic drinks like Belgian Ales, but it is most famous for its outstanding mussels with French fries. Their service is quick and impeccable and their small garden is lovely, but make sure to reserve a table if you want to come on a weekend.
