First built in 1857, then rebuilt in 1866 following its destruction in a pogrom, the red-brick Choral Temple has a memorial in front of it (visible from the street) that commemorates the Romanian Jews sent to their deaths during the Holocaust. It is a copy of Vienna's Leopoldstadt-Tempelgasse Great Synagogue. It was rededicated in December 2014 following an eight-year renovation of the fabulous, colourful interior.
