Back and twice the Craic? The old Becketts on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky was a veritable institution. (Some of us remember 9/11 in Budapest, and how practically every English speaking expatriate in town turned up, stunned, at Becketts: with something like the instinct of homing pigeons.) Anyway, after a forced closure following one of those endless district disputes too tedious to recount here, they've reopened, smack dab in the middle of Touristville! That is to say Liszt Ferenc tér, where they're sure to pull in the daytrippers as well as long haul expats. It's now a perfectly decent, sprawling Irish pub, with dining upstairs, a cosy back room, football on the strategically positioned tellies, regular live music sessions, hearty pub grub and yes, a reliably good pint of Guinness. With competition for expatriate hearts and minds from Scots pub the Caledonia not far away, who can say how it will fare on that score? But nice that they're back - and we wish them, well, the luck o' the Irish...
