Cluj-Napoca

Gara Cluj (Cluj Station)

While not the kind of place you really want to hang around any longer than you have to, it must be said that there are far worse stations in Romania than that at Cluj.

You can walk to the city centre in around 20 minutes, although the city's bright trams (numbers 101 and 102) will get you there much faster. It's just two stops (make sure you get off at the first stop after the bridge: stay on for another two stops if you are heading for the Cluj Arena). Three trolleybuses (3, 4, 5) also run into the city centre but tend to be a less pleasant experience.

Tickets for noth trams and buses cost a bargain 2 lei, and you can buy single tickets from the automated machines at the stop, or double tickets (costing 4 lei) from kiosks.

If you have a local mobile phone number you can buy tickets via SMS. Send a message containing the letter 'T' to 7479 and you can travel worry-free for an hour.

Unless you are heading to a hotel out of the city centre the chances are you will not be needing a taxi from Cluj station. If you do grab one, make sure it belongs to a reputable taxi company: Nova, Pro Rapid and VIP Nova are those we recommend.
