Bonj

Something of a monument to Hvar's long-standing status as one of Dalmatia's prime bathing resort, the art-deco pavilion known as Bonj ("The Baths") was built in 1927 to provide a focus for the town's fast-growing holiday industry. Consisting of a row of changing cabins looking out onto a concrete strand equipped with jutting bathing piers, it's an elegant example of the inter-war era's lifestyle aspirations, with a central colonnaded belvedere offering fine views of the bay.  Nowadays it is in use as the Beach Club Hvar, offering cabin and sun-lounger rental as well as a bar. There are no sun beds out of season, but it remains a popular winter beach for swimmers of the “Bonj Republic.”
