Damascus International Airport (DAM)

23 Mar 2026
The pleasant 1970s-style airport of Damascus is 25km southeast of the city centre and is reached along a wide highway in about 30 minutes. It has a beautiful traditional-style Damascene cafe at its center, complete with a bubbling fountain, money exchange, mobile phone offices, and taxi desks nearby. There's free wifi throughout the terminal. Note that the website www.damascusairport.com looks very nice, but is not the official airport website, and may display incorrect information.

Arriving travellers can make use of the taxi stand in the main hall to book a ride into town at a fixed price of 250.000 SP, or go out to negotiate with waiting taxis, a fare of 150.000 SP may be possible. Using the YallaGo and ElectroTaxi apps should result in a quick pick-up as both companies have drivers waiting around; expect to pay around XX SP.

The airport bus service has not been reinstated yet, but if it does take off, it should shuttle passengers to the Nahr Aishah bus station, just south of the National Museum.

to be redesigned with a new terminal and a five-star hotel under a $4 billion Qatari deal, upgrading two existing terminals and building a third, with Zaha Hadid Architects lined up to help with the redesign. Also envisaged is five-star hotel replacing an old hotel building on the current site. Organisers hope to finish revamping Terminal 1 by the end of 2026, offering room for six million passengers per year.
