The most famous play by the biggest writer in the history of mankind, Shakespeare's 'Hamlet, Prince of Denmark', takes place, naturally, in Denmark. If you've read the play, (and if you haven't, you should) you might say that the melancholy prince was a bit too harsh to his own country, and that there isn’t much 'rotten in the state of Denmark', quite the contrary. The original 'Sad boi' is guilty of uttering the legendary words 'to be or not to be' as well as many others from his famous seven soliloquies, that have been burdening the minds of scholars for more than 400 years, and many of his philosophical questions remain unanswered to this day.
Not far from Copenhagen, in the nearby town Helsingør you can visit Hamlet's castle, Kronborg and witness the ongoing play there, meet the actors and have a lot of fun exploring the rooms and halls of this majestic castle. Make sure to watch the final duel in the throne room, it's really exciting.
