Dr. France Prešeren, the greatest Slovene poet, realised the idea of Matija Čop and began to write sonnets and romance. He became the first Slovene poet in the modern sense and with his poetry Slovenes, in literary terms, became equal to the European people. Today, France Prešeren is considered one of the greatest Slovenian poets and Slovenian symbols. The seventh stanza of his poem Zdravljica was used as the lyrics for the country's national anthem, followed by his image on the 1000 Slovenian tolar banknote. He also appears on the two Euro coin.
