A proud southern tradition, Carnival looks a bit like Halloween, but it's steeped in history. Between Saturday and Tuesday (in either February or March) most hotels, bars and clubs have carnival parties where guests, most of whom are in fancy dress, get into the spirit of 'turning the world upside down' or whatever that means. Try to catch at least one parade or public street party and enjoy the 'polonaise' dance. During these crazy days, Eindhoven ceases to exist and becomes 'Lampegat' (Lamp City).
