It may have been the first Grade I listed pier in Britain, but time has not been kind to Brighton’s West Pier. Or has it? What was once a bustling centre of social activity is now a ravaged hulk of wood and metal, rotting away as the sea continues to batter its tired stalks, but it is all the more aesthetically striking for that decay.
