Tartu’s premier independent art-house cinema, Elektriteater (The Electric Theatre), serves up a brilliantly irregular menu of off-beat, arthouse, and European films. Their atmospheric main auditorium, Kiriku saal, is uniquely housed on the third floor of a former University of Tartu church building (C-5, Jakobi 1). For an entirely different vibe, they also operate a cosy second screening room, Raekoja saal, complete with an intimate cinema bar tucked right off Town Hall Square (Kompanii 2). Whichever venue you choose, keep a careful eye on the schedule because you’ll rarely see the same piece of cinematic art twice.
