She sailed for 22 years under the Polish flag as a replacement for the famous MS Batory. Similar to her predecessor, TSS Stefan Batory quickly became the scene of the best parties involving thousands of people. What gave a unique atmosphere during Polish transatlantic cruises were the orchestras. Passengers were entertained by two orchestras - an octet playing mid-morning symphonic concerts and evening balls in a large ballroom and a quartet, which played to guests in the afternoon. Hipolit Śmierzchalski spent ten years (1978-1988) travelling on TSS Stefan Batory as the "on board" photographer. He took thousands of black and white photographs documenting the ship's legendary story. Fun loving and a great story teller, Śmierzchalski was always the life of the party.
