The Citizens' Company was founded in 1943 to provide theatre for all walks of life - not just the great and the good - and at very reasonable prices. It worked, and to this day the company produces at least four new works per season. Its 459-seat Main Theatre, 90-seat Circle Studio and 45-seat Stalls Studio also stage classic productions from writers as diverse as Eugene O’Neill, Henrik Ibsen and Roald Dahl.
Known locally as the 'Citz', the Citizens' also has a bit of a track record as a nursery for today’s best young British actors. And renowned Scottish thesps such as Robert Carlyle, Bill Patersonand Alan Cumming have also been invoved with its TAG Young Citizens' Theatre Company. Attend a show and admire the foyer's Victorian statues depicting Shakespeare, Robert Burns, the four muses... and four pink elephants.
