Marstrand, a small seaside locality, is situated about an hour away from Gothenburg. It was named after the island Marstrandsön on which it is located.
The place is best known for sailing and sailing competitions, and it is the host of Match Cup Sweden. The event attracts the very crème de la crème of the sailing community. The world's best sailing teams gather in Marstrand to test their sailing skills, in the race. The teams race two at a time, in supplied identical boats. The race is held about 15 meters from the shore, which provides excellent view to the audience.
But Marstrand is not only about sailing race, there are loads of fun activities to do here, such as kayaking, shopping and the like. When in town, make sure to treat yourself with some of the seafood delicacies served in many restaurants all over the city.  Beautiful architecture and nature are worth seeing, and this is best done on foot, if you have enough time to roam the narrow alleys that hide true jewels of the city. Carlsten Fortress, overlooking the island is a must see for any visitor in town.
