In the remote Northern countryside of the province of Groningen, you'll have to search hard for the village of Houwerzijl. A tiny spot on the map, but home to the one and only tea museum of the Netherlands. A picturesque church from 1862 has been converted for this purpose and filled to the rafters with a wide range of goods and products, all directly related to the once thriving tea trade in this part of the Netherlands. The museum itself gives a fascinating insight to interesting facts like that tea cures sore feet, smelly breath and even tired eyes. One part of the church is reserved for a classical tearoom, where you can order the greatest selection of fresh teas available in the Netherlands. In the church tower the passionate owners have created a romantic hideout, thus being the place where the highest High Tea in the Low Countries is served.
