If you're not a follower of Dutch royalty then the name might require some explanation. Paleis Soestdijk was for many decades the countryside residence of former Dutch Queen Beatrix and her family. The new king has chosen a different palace as his home, but his mother still lives there. The Groningen version of this name is a cosy brown bar that honours this beloved Dutch woman with lots of framed pictures of her, but we're not sure why so many of them are with her cheating German husband. In any event, two nephews of the current king also worked at this typical student eatery, but today the only royal treatment you'll receive is a white peppermint decorated with the face of Queen Wilhelmina, Beatrix's mother, which comes with the bill. And this is where the free Dutch history lesson ends.
