Built between 1845 and 1852 and based on an original plan by the court architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves, the Classical style Hanover Opera House originally served as the royal theatre. Like just about every building in Germany the Opera House was badly damaged during WWII. It was faithfully rebuilt in 1948 and today plays home to the likes of The Phantom of the Opera.
