The Hennops Hiking Trail is widely-regarded to be one of the most beautiful and well-maintained hiking trails in Gauteng, with a good selection of easy or challenging hikes. There are three circular hiking routes to choose from – a short 2km walk aimed at young families, the relatively easy 6km Zebra Route (takes approximately 2 hours) and the more challenging 11.3km Krokodilberg Route (4-5 hours for more experienced hikers).

All trails begin by crossing the Hennops River either by a suspension bridge or via a fun old-fashioned 'cablecar' which works by a pulley system. On the longer Krokodilberg Route you'll pass pass by a large cave, reached by a precariously steep rope ladder, before beginning the meandering climb across the hills to various viewpoints where you can admire the impressive silhouette of the Magaliesberg mountains stretching across the distant horizon, as well as the massive empty towers of the now defunct Pelindaba power station. All trails feature some wonderful indigenous flora and fauna to look out for such as zebra, blesbok, kudu and giant tree-like aloes.

Along all routes there is very little shade and no places to access drinking water so it is highly recommended that you avoid the midday sun by leaving as early as possible and that you carry ample supplies of water, food and sunscreen with you.
