The history of Crete is on display at various location in Heraklion and the area around it. The Historical Museum of Crete located in the centre of the city is dedicated to the period from the 4th century up to WWII. Kalokairinos House, built in 1903 in neoclassical style hosts collections of visual arts, ceramics, sculptures, coins, jewelry, portable icons, ritual objects, manuscripts, the reconstructed interior of a Cretan rural home, etc.
