Ethiopia is truly one of the most fascinating countries in the world and definitely a destination to add to your bucket list. But until you manage to clear a month from your schedule and book that flight to Addis, at least you can eat authentic, home-cooked Ethiopian food without going any further than Southport. For the uninitiated, sub-Saharan Africa's most famous cuisine commonly takes the form of thick, flavourful stew-like dishes called 'wot', which are eaten with 'injera', a spongy, moist and slightly sour flatbread. Injera can be a bit of an acquired taste, so if you're not keen on the stuff you can have rice on the side instead – although this does ruin the fun of eating with your hands. While the menu at Horn of Africa isn't exhaustive, you can taste that each dish has been carefully prepared with fresh, quality ingredients, and the overall dining experience is made all the more pleasant and memorable by the genuinely warm, welcoming, kind-hearted owner, who clearly takes pride in sharing her wonderful cuisine and culture with guests. In fact, we can't imagine anyone leaving without a smile on there face.
