Despite only opening in 2007, this place describes itself as being the First Strudel House of Pest, although we suspect the 'First' refers to the quality as in 'Best' rather than the first cafe serving strudels to ever having existed in Pest. The building does date from the early 19th century and there is an oldie worldie air to the place, but the reason for visiting is the strudel. If you're fortunate you'll catch the chef preparing fresh strudel before your very eyes as he tosses the dough and fills it with one of the selection of fruit fillings. If you're in need of a break from photographing the nearby Parliament building and assorted monuments, take a break here. The 4 Euro for a coffee and piece of apple strudel we spent was some of the best value for money we've experienced in Budapest.
