Spiler Shanghai

Relive the glory days of Shanghai, in the days before WWII. Well not quite, but that's clearly the inspiration behind this newish joint with a bit of a 1930s speakeasy vibe. One half of the menu, 'the East Side', billed as Asian fusion, is perhaps geared to local tastes, but the fried prawns and pho soup were perfectly serviceable. The other side of the menu is the kind of hearty pub grub you find across the courtyard at their sister restaurant, Spiler Original. But in all candour it was Spiler Shanghai's liquid refreshments that got our attention, including a great selection of sake and Asian beers. DJ Moon hits the decks on weekend nights from midnight.
