Watching the Northern Lights is just a microscopic particle of what Iceland has to offer to the adventurous souls. Ride a snowmobile along the frozen arctic glaciers, a horse along the lava fields, or a boat above the minkle whales; swim and walk between the continents, and watch out for White Walkers!
One of the best things to do while in Iceland is to take a little casual walk north of the Wall. Game of Thrones fanatics can treasure a visit to the lands of the Night Walkers, to walk the paths of the Wildlings, and recognize some of the most epic battlegrounds from the series with a professional tour guide.
Glacier Snowmobiling Tour
Snowmobiling on the second-largest frozen glacier in Iceland is not an adventure you'd want to miss. Participants can choose a pick-up service from Reykjavik or directly head to Gullfoss to join the rest of the group on-site. The ride is guided, lasts about four to five hours, it is totally safe and available for everyone who is over eight years of age. Keep in mind that snowmobiling gear is not provided, so you'll need to take care of it prior to the ride.
Whale Watching Tour
Iceland is one of the few places on Earth where you can hop on a boat and follow the majestic humpback and minkle whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises around their natural habitat. The tour's starting point is Reykjavik's old harbour, the duration is about three hours, and the experience is once in a lifetime. Participants will enjoy an onboard guide who will explain more about the life of the whales, a cafe, and a magnificent view of the Icelandic shore.
Scuba Diving Tour
Scuba diving in Silfra (Thingvellir National Park) is a stunning dry suit diving experience that will literally take you down into an underwater crack in Earth - the one that divides the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The Scuba driving tour includes a prior introduction from a knowledgeable guide. Inexperienced divers are asked to take a one-day diving course prior to the Silfra diving tour, to ensure their safety and optimal experience.
If you are not eager to waste two days on-site (which is, by the way, worth it), you can always choose to do snorkeling instead of scuba diving.
Horseback Riding Lava Tour
Icelandic horses are a breed brought along by the Nordic Vikings. They are rather small but very strong, friendly, and intelligent animals. Horseback riding on a pure-bred Icelandic horse is a trademark adventure when in Iceland. The horseback riding Lava tour happens right outside Reykjavik, it lasts about two hours and takes riders (above eight years of age) through the spectacular lava fields and hillsides around the city.
