The island of Ireland comes to a very abrupt and dramatic stop at the Cliffs of Moher, a 650ft straight-down drop into the Atlantic. This is the very edge - next stop America - and is one of the most spectacular coastal views in Europe, which has to be seen to be believed. Photos just don't do it justice - you've got to see it with your own eyes. A Visitor Centre offers exhibitions, a gift shop and café, if you can drag yourself away from the magnificent views. It's worth paying the couple of Euro to go up O'Brien's Tower, which offers an even loftier viewpoint.
