Opened in 1889 and just off Grafton St, this pub has been going strong ever since. It has a strong association with James Joyce who used to be a regular here and mentioned it in his seminal tomes Dubliners and Ulysses. Every Bloomsday (16 June) tourists and locals flock here to sample the gorgonzola sandwich and glass of burgundy. Look up to catch a glimpse of the magnificent stained glass-domed ceiling. The fixtures are pre-WW1 and the food top notch. It gets particularly full on Fri, sunny evenings and rugby weekends. Arrive early and grab a seat outside to enjoy the sights of Dubliners passing by as you eat a tasty lunch or dinner and sink a cold drink.
