Popular with tourists thanks to its location between Grafton Street and that big tourist office on Suffolk Street, this is a particularly fine pub for an afternoon pint. Formerly known as The Thing Mote because it stood near the site of a Viking 'ting' or important meeting point, O’Donoghue’s is refreshingly old-fashioned in its atmosphere and décor. Big matches are shown on TV, the furniture and lighting are invitingly dark, and (unlike a lot of bars) they leave every section open when seats get sparse. Best of all, the windows are massive, making it a lovely spot for a quiet pint and some people-watching. Only drawback - drinks are a little more expensive than they should be.
