Africa Rise [Sandton City]

A must-visit store for contemporary African fashion. Launched in late 2019 by leading South African fashion designer Thula Sindi, Africa Rise is the brand's first fashion emporium in Sandton City showcasing an array of top African fashion brands created by an exciting lineup of designers whose labels aren't usually found in high street malls. Each designer has been given space within the store to represent the unique aesthetics of their brand, creating a colourful and inviting shopping experience.

Among the dozen or so top brands represented at the store are Galago, Adhiambo Mula-Lauwers's colourful espadrilles made exclusively with ethically sourced, sustainable materials, women's fashion label Mantsho by Palesa Mokubung whose high-profile international admirers include Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter (Black Panther), hip Joburg-based denim brand Tshepo the Jeanmaker whose cult-status rocketed when Meghan Markle visited his Joburg studio, accessories queen Maria Mccloy whose African print shoes and bold jewellery designs have become local must-have items and Mozambican high fashion label Taibo Bacar.

Thula Sindi, whose sparkling cocktail dresses and iconic T-shirts are local celebrity favourites, is also represented at the store. You can also browse and buy from the AfricaRise store online. Read our interview with Thula Sindi here
