Named after the Prague-born writer & satirist, Jaroslav Hašek (1883-1923), and taking his most famous character, the bumbling WW1 soldier Švejk (from The Good Soldier Švejk), as restaurant mascot, U Gasheka is the dimly-lit, dark-wood-fitted Czech option in Kaliningrad. And it’s a pretty authentic one at that, serving up a sensibly-sized menu of hearty meat-and-potatoes grub, the kind that'll set you up for days at a time, together with some seriously good Czech beer on draught. After some deliberation we plucked for the Pilsen Goulash with knedliky dumplings and a nice cold Krušovice Imperial and we're still going strong!
