Lawrence Foster

Thursday Jun 18 19:30 …       Pl. Wojciecha Kilara 1
National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra led by Lawrence Foster performs Hector Berlioz's Romeo and Juliet Op. 17,  a large-scale choral symphony. A homage to love (Berlioz was in love with Harriet Smithson, an Irish actress who played Juliet) Shakespeare and the symphonic form, Berlioz's symphony should be recognised as a triumph of drama, formal coherence and lyric beauty. Romeo and Juliet is rarely performed, most likely because it is unusually constructed and requiring a very extensive cast. Here it is performed by he National Philharmonic Choir and the soloists Katharina Magiera (alto), Andrew Lampert (tenor), and Nicolas Cavallier (bass).
