Leonard Slatkin conducts the National Radio Symphony Orchestra performing the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in G minor, Op. 33, the only piano concerto by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, and the Symphony No. 8 in C minor, Op. 65, by Dmitri Shostakovich. The guest pianist will be Martin Helmchen, one of the exceptional German pianists of the younger generation, described as "the kind of performer who lifts his audiences up to heaven just by penetrating inside his music with nimble fingers, questing intelligence and a beating heart.”
