National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra led by Masaaki Suzuki performs Johann Sebastian Bach's St John Passion, BWV 245, which has been undeservedly described as more extravagant, and less "finished", probably due to Bach's many modifications to the libretto. Meanwhile, it can be interpreted as an experiment of a master searching for original means of expression, a brilliant foreshadowing of the St. Matthew Passion. Performed by Bach Collegium Japan and the soloists Hana Blažíková (soprano), Damien Guillon (countertenor), James Gilchrist (tenor), Zachary Wilder (tenor), and Christian Immler (bass).
