Mariacka Tylna Underpass Art

ul. Mariacka Tylna 1 ,   Katowice Centre         more than a year ago
The underpass found at the beginning of ul. Mariacka Tylna (linking it to ul. Wojewódzka) is at times a graffiti mess, and at times, a place to showcase new street art installations. Magda Dorbczyk created murals here in 2011 showing depictions of Silesian history, heroes and everyday Silesian life, however, over time this was unfortunately covered with messy tags and slurs, so in late 2017 the full length of the walls were painted white. The cultural institute Katowice Miasto Ogrodów (city of gardens) decided to install some street art here using PVC tubing hanging from the ceiling that create sound when pushed. The walls are being left for people to paint graffiti over, with the decision made to only later cover up any slurs - all others shall remain.
