Katowice's history is relatively short. Lasting only over a century as the city of Katowice, it was documented as a small town named Villa Nova that once stood where the city is today. Owing most of its importance to the discovery of large coal deposits in the area, it earned its status as a city under Prussian rule in 1865. As most young cities tend to do, reconstruction of derelict buildings takes place at a much faster rate than cities with buildings centuries old. This exhibition will touch on folklore, stories, discoveries, and histories of various areas of the city. It will create an invisible city map of that no longer exists. The main goal of the exhibition is to create a discussion of how urban space should be used and developed in Katowice.
