Built in 1871, this beautiful building in the city centre hides a wealth of wonderful things to see inside but can only be visited by prior appointment which involves making a telephone call and hoping that someone at the other end speaks English.

In your description of the synagogue it is stated to have one of the most beautiful ALTARS. I think this is incorrect as Synagogues - Altars is used in biblical times - do not have them. I think perhaps it should either be the Bimah, from which the Torah is read, or The Ark in which the Torah Scrolls are kept. I also sent this last night so apologise if you receive this twice.
