Paper tickets for the city’s buses and trolleybuses can be bought from the driver for €1 for one journey of any length and any one vehicle. This simple system should be more than adequate, although it’s worth mentioning the Kauno Kortelė, an electronic card available for €1.50 from kiosks around town. Buy any number of journeys and top the card up when necessary. The most useful top-up option is a €0.70 ticket for a journey of any length that can be accomplished using two different vehicles if the second bus or trolleybus is boarded within the first 30 minutes after validating the card. A useful three-day ticket is also available for €5.50. A small fleet of buses and trolleybuses runs a limited schedule of journeys through the night, albeit only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Board all buses and trolleybuses using the front door only and keep an eye out for the information in English posted on all vehicles. Find a complete schedule online in English at www.stops.lt/kaunas.
