Despite being the largest city in the area and a regional capital, Košice can be a frustrating city to get to and from. The stations themselves are modern and efficient, but for some reason there aren’t a huge amount of convenient lines to neighbouring cities. Still, if you are looking to explore this part of Slovakia then you aren’t going to find a better base than Košice. There is an international airport along with decent bus and train stations, all staffed with friendly folk who might not speak English but boy do they know how to mime.
