The late Gothic fountain was created as part of Kutná Hora’s water supply system around 1495. It is interesting not only from an art history perspective, but also as a technical monument. Water flowed to it through wooden pipes. The fountain itself was roofed and served as a water reservoir that fed other public fountains in the town. Two private branches also existed – one to Hrádek, the residence of the affluent Smíšek family, and the other to the Italian Court, which was also apparently called “a sprinkle of water for the king”.
