Žleby received its name from the Doubrava River, which created a deep gorge here. The first written mention of Žleby Chateau dates back to 1289, when originally the Gothic castle of the Lords of Lichtenburg stood here, which was rebuilt in Late Gothic style after it had been destroyed by the Hussites in the 15th century. The chateau underwent Renaissance and Baroque renovations and received its present romantic form in the style of Elizabethan Renaissance and French Gothic thanks to Prince V. K. Auersperg in 1849-1868. Today the chateau is under the administration of the National Heritage Institute. Žleby Chateau is entirely unique with its richly furnished historical interiors, which were established during the course of the 19th century by the Prince of Auersperg. 3 tours are available to the public, during which it is possible to see, for example, the large tower with a viewing platform or the fully-equipped chateau kitchen.
On the edge of the chateau park there is an example of a game park measuring about 4 hectares, where you can learn about the history of falconry, birds of prey and owls. Here you can also see a herd of white deer. In season, demonstrations of flights of birds of prey are prepared here.
