A dinner at the famed Abd el Wahab, preferably outside on the terrace, is all but mandatory for any first time visitors to Beirut – in fact the place is such an institution for traditional Lebanese cuisine, sometimes you forget that the restaurant was named for the street it's on, and not vice versa. Over the years the classic oriental décor has gained a bit of wear and tear, but if you ask us this actually adds to the ambience and character of the place, rather than detracting from it. Likewise, its reputation as a wallet-buster is a bit outdated, as restaurant prices have risen so much in recent years that if anything it's relatively inexpensive compared the competition.
