Not too long ago we were lecturing a friend about our favourite sandwich place in Beirut, a literal no name butcher shop with a small grill on Rue Armenie where we'd been getting sandwiches since 2003, proclaiming that if Beirut had real hipsters they'd be eating there not at Mashawish! So of course less than a week later our friendly moustachioed butcher shuttered his doors and vanished during the night, and now all we have left are the memories of his perfectly crafted kefta and flavourful, juicy taouk. And we've also still got nearby Mashawish, which is objectively probably even better, just with smaller portions and higher prices. In fact, it's probably only a matter of time before Mashwish's mouthwatering pork ribs sandwich and Caesar wraps make us forget all about the butcher, which is our very roundabout way of saying that we highly recommend the place. Now if you don't mind, we're going to listen to Robert Zimmerman belt out “The Times They Are A-Changin' ” on repeat.
