Harewood House

It’ll take your breath away at first sight. Country houses in the north don’t come much more miraculous than Harewood House, a quite stunning piece of 18th century architecture that will elicit dreams of wealth in even the most anarchistic of minds. Originally built for plantation and slave owner Edwin Lascelles, this is widely renowned as one of the most impressive mansions in the country. The gardens are quite incredible too, although we’ve come to expect nothing less from the tremendously-monikered Capability Brown. The Downtown Abbey team used it as a location for the 2019 film, although that seems somewhat obvious as well. The house is in the village of Harewood, some seven miles outside the city proper.
