Jewish banker Hans Kroch had Leipzig’s first steel-reinforced tower block constructed in 1928. At a dizzying eleven storeys, it was a source of controversy regarding building guidelines then. A clock flanked by two lions is on the east face, and two figures strike the bell on top every quarter hour above the motto ‘Omnia vincit labor’ - work overcomes all.
