Famous conductor Kurt Masur, who led the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra from 1970 to 1996, is responsible for saving and restoring the house where the legendary composer, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, lived his last few years. Today you can walk through the first floor flat, fully restored, where Mendelssohn and his family lived, worked and where he died.
