In this demonstration dairy (schaukäserei) in the village of Engelberg you can peek over the shoulders of the cheese makers and watch them in the process of making cheese. Every 40 minutes a new batch is started, so you can see all the steps from the careful heating of the milk to the storage of the blocks of cheese. The most interesting time is between 10:00 and 14:30, when production is most intensive. Leaflets in English explain each step. When you know all you need to know about cheese - go and have some! In the shop you can get the cheese made here as well as other regional specialities, and the bistro serves snacks, meals and desserts, mostly dairy. The Schaukäserei is in the buildings of the splendid baroque abbey Engelberg, some of which can also be visited. Why not combine it with a visit to famous Mount Titlis ? The cable car starts in Engelberg too. The train ride from Lucerne to Engelberg takes 45min.
