The Whitworth is one of our favourite art galleries in the UK, a 50,000+ strong collection of works housed in one of the most remarkable buildings in the north, itself found in the magical surroundings of Whitworth Park. Established in 1889, it is modern artists who steal the show, with extensive collections of works by Francis Bacon, Turner, Picasso, Hockney and a whole lot more. An absolute must for anyone with even the most cursory interest in painting.
