Banja Luka

Marija Zvijezda Convent

Slatinska 1     more than a year ago
While many Trappist monasteries have opened their doors in the desire for visitors, the Marija Zvijezda Convent in Banja Luka remains steadfastly committed to its traditional way of life. Once the largest of its type in Europe, the monastery is now down to just two monks, meaning anyone expecting to be able to turn up and explore the abbey established in 1926 will be disappointed. Visits are possible however, either by arranging ahead of time or finding a group to latch onto. Much like a pencil case that warns ‘Do Not Touch’, the convent’s desire to remain private only seems to increase the desire of potential visitors.
