The Orzeł Cinema has been a major cultural institution in Bydgoszcz that dates back to 1929. Surviving various regime changes, it operated at ul. Marcinkowskiego until 2002, at which point the centre could no longer compete with mainstream cinemas and was forced to closed. Its new lease on life began in 2012, when it reopened as part of the new Municipal Cultural Center. It has since provided the city and the region with a schedule of independent and arthouse films, mainly Polish and European; tickets generally only cost 11-14zł.
