Monaco is the ultimate location for movies. The city has been featured in countless films, including many that are quite well-known around the world. Grace of Monaco is a 2014 biography film of Grace Kelly, an American actress who became the princess of Monaco after marrying Prince Rainer III in 1956, and (spoiler alert) would later die tragically in a Hollywoodesque car accident. The role of Grace was played by the award-winning actress Nicole Kidman. Of course it was Grace Kelly's starring role in the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock classic To Catch a Thief that brought her to Monaco in the first place, and has indelibly linked the city to the silver screen.

Two James Bond films were also shot in Monaco, Golden Eye in 1995 and Never Say Never Again in 1983, the latter of which saw the late great Sean Connery taking on the role for the final time, and famously showcased the beachfront, stunning views and cosy streets in Monaco during a motorcycle chase. Meanwhile the Pierce Brosnan led Golden Eye had several pivotal scenes at the Casino de Monte-Carlo. More recently, Monaco hit the silver screen again, with Robert Downey Jr making an appearance as Marvel's Iron Man.
