Jerusalem is a restaurant on the rooftop of the synagogue on Bolshaya Bronnaya Street and is probably the favorite spot of Moscow’s older and wealthier Jewish community, as well as Jewish expats from the US and Israel. It is more upscale than all the trendy hipster eateries serving hummus and falafel; this is a place where businessmen and religious individuals come to discuss important global Judaic matters over kosher Israeli and Caucasian dishes, as well as some good ol’ Russian favorites like jellied meat kholodets and borsch. The menu is easy to understand; there are no hip fusion dishes of any sorts. In the summer months, this is a favorite for Jews and gentiles alike thanks to the beautiful and spacious rooftop terrace with a very Mediterranean feel that opens up an incredible view over Moscow’s roofs. The opening of this terrace depends on religious holidays and can get very busy so it is well worth checking on availability in advance. If you do manage to get up here though, you will be happy you persevered because the view really is quite a treat!
