Before they were the Tsars of All Russia, the Romanovs were a rich boyar (merchant) family with a manor not far from the Kremlin. The house of Nikita Romanovich Yuryev was first recorded on a map in 1597. After four centuries, it is now preserved as a small and thoroughly interesting museum. The recreated models and exhibits recreate the daily life of that time. The men's floor with the room for the elder sons and the upper women's floor where a maximum amount of windows ensured some productivity at the loom say much about the culture. English texts in all the rooms provide insight into each making a visit here enjoyable and educational.
